The Rise of The Rugs Outlet

While the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic was a daunting time for the world, The Rugs Outlet was born around this time for a number of optimistic reasons. The founders decided that they wanted to create something more positive during a negative time, bringing a colourful and artistic touch to the lives of others. The mission is and will always be to combine the essence of art with material to create authentic rug designs that you cannot find anywhere else.

With the majority of the nation spending much of their time at home, launching The Rugs Outlet gave rise to a great opportunity for bringing designer rugs at great prices to those searching for comfort as well as an artistic touch. Since the launch of The Rugs Outlet, we have gradually expanded our rug collections and due to an encouraging and positive response, we plan to continue introducing new designs that will be available both online and in-store.

The History of Rugs

Humans have crafted rugs out of every possible material for many centuries, thanks to the great materials available to source from Mother Nature. Ancient tribes would weave together reeds and grass to create aboriginal style rugs for maintaining the warmth on a cold ground. Over 5,000 years ago, nomadic tribes would hand-weave rugs out of camel, sheep and goat hair – you can imagine how much warmth these types of rugs would create.

Archaeologists have been known to uncover evidence of rugs in Egyptian and Mesopotamian tombs dating all the way back to 4,000 years ago. The oldest surviving rug is known as The Pazyryk Carpet, which dates back to 500 BC which was discovered in Siberia in 1949. Despite its age, the rug was evidence of an extremely progressive and sophisticated technique that had been crafted with rich colour and design.

At The Rugs Outlet, we believe in the power of diversity, which is why we are always developing new designs so that we have something for all walks of life. Whether you’re a lover of handmade rugs or a trend setter following modern styles, here’s a guide to what’s on offer both online and in-store:

Modern Rugs

Our unique in-house designed modern rugs will be suitable for any interior. We offer a wide range of shades, sizes and shapes that will make a statement in any room of your home.

Traditional Rugs

Our wide range of classic traditional rugs will bring a luxurious vintage touch to your home. Discover a variety of in-house designed styles, colours and sizes to fit perfectly in any room.

Plain and Shaggy Rugs

Add some comfort to your home with our shaggy rugs that are offered in a range of pile heights, shades and sizes.

 Handmade Rugs

Handmade wool rugs take months and even years to be made. A rug like this is the ideal choice for anyone that is looking for a traditional and unique piece of textile to add character to your home interior.

 Bamboo Silk Rugs

Bamboo silk rugs are made of natural viscose. Cellulose is extracted from the plant and formed into a sticky paste. After extraction, the cellulose is then left to dry. Once it is dried, it is expelled to become a soft silky fibre. The result is a fibre that feels like a cloud, and is soft and cool to the touch.

Runners and Round Rugs

Runners are great for creating a flow of harmonious energy from one door to another, while round rugs have a curved effect which is great for establishing a smooth and soft look in your home.

Small - Medium Rugs

Small to medium rugs are useful for placing in the entrance of your home to create a warm and welcoming statement.

Medium - Large Rugs

Medium to large rugs are our most popular choice. Whether you’re looking for a 160x230cm rug to add a traditional or contemporary look to your home, or would like to take it up a notch, we also have 200x290cm rugs available both online and in-store.

 Large – Extra-large Rugs

Large to extra-large rugs are most popular for establishing greater impact in your interior design concepts and enhanced energy within large room spaces, depending on colour scheme, material, detail and design.

 Oversized Rugs

When you are searching to go bigger and bolder, you can create a unique atmosphere to the large areas in your home with our extensive collection of oversized rugs. We have quality, in-house designed styles, in a variety of colours and textures that will elevate any area.

Outdoor Rugs

Outdoor rugs are great for defining the space in the garden and introducing some décor to outside surroundings. Hard wearing and weather resistant, these rugs are also a great option for indoor use.

6 Questions to Consider Before Purchasing Your Rug

At The Rugs Outlet, we are passionate about helping our customers to establish the best interior design concepts through introducing the power of artistically crafted rugs. You can speak to a member of our team should you need any advice when selecting your favourite rug – we are all rug enthusiasts and we have an in-house interior designer with over a decade of experience.

When purchasing your favourite rug, it’s always best to cover these 5 questions:

  1. Colour – What is the colour scheme of the space I’m designing and how will the rug compliment this?
  2. Size – What size is the area of the floor that I need to cover?
  3. Style – What is the recurring theme of the space I’m designing and how does the rug match this theme?
  4. Texture – Which rug material will go best in this space to enhance the home decor textures?
  5. Functionality – What is the purpose of the rug? To fill gaps, create energy flow, introduce a certain look, create comfort or provide a statement?
  6. Lighting – Will the rug be placed in natural or artificial lighting? Always remember that your rug will reflect a slightly different look depending on the lighting in your interior.

Rugs for Living Room #TOPTIP

It is stated by many renowned interior designers that a rug should be wider than the couch with a foot of space on either side showing, when pairing it with your home décor. A rug should have a minimum of 18″ of space around where the bare floor shows. The front legs of the couch and any accent chairs should also be placed on the rug.
